dionne.space my story

Hiya! I'm Dionne,

Hiya! I'm Dionne, a creative coach, yoga and meditation teacher, dj, writer, spacemaking event maker, but above all, a human being that loves life, good vibes and feelings.

I also love movement, memes, music, food, words, self care, colour, creating spaces that didn´t exist before, cultivating community, collecting inspiration, explorations and adventures.

And sharing combos of these things in spaces and places that might not be the “normal” context. Cause what´s “normal” anyway?!

Most of all, i love sharing combos of these things in ways that are REAL and FUN with GOOD people. Real people. Who are also curious and interested in ways to make life better, more inspired, more abundant, more in-flow. In whatever ways that work for them.

I´m currently based between the UK (south coast- yo!) and Norway (west and east coast-yo!). I run community events, retreats and experiences in both countries and beyond (thank you, internet!) as well as working one to one with my creative coaching clients all over the world.

Life is a bit of a mixup. I like to embrace that.

Polymaths unite!

so you can feel good whilst carving your own path.

I encourage you to do you.

I´m into celebrating uniqueness.

And getting real, into the guts, and making space to feel the feels.

Wherever you have come from, whatever you´ve been through,

you are important, of value and worthy of and entitled to desiging a life that feels great

(not just one that looks nice from the outside).

dionne.space

Creative Coaching

I´m a creative coach and provide tailor experiences for people to delve into their desires and to create positive, meaningful and sustainable changes that help them feel better every day.

dionne.space

Yoga, meditation
+ wellness experiences

I´ve been teaching yoga since 2010, holding thousands of community classes, one-to-one's, workshops and experiences both in the UK and Norway.

You can find out about my current offerings and some of my previous projects below.

dionne.space

Writing

Writing is life. And i create resources for you about a lot of life suff, including authentic and accessible self care, real talk about managing the challenging stuff (usually with some lols and gifs). I also talk about life in between the UK, Norway and beyond because i´m based between two countries!

It´s generally a multimedia feast as although i was born in 1980, i´m still vaguely categorised as "millennial", but i don´t really think anyone knows what that means :) :) :)

I also collect and curate resources and create feel-good inspiration holes. You know, like the good stuff you find on the internet and irl but aren´t sure how what to do with it? I´ve got you. And them. Some of them at least. That i hope will inspire and delight you.

dionne.space music

Music

I curate things to help you feel good/better.

Now and then i play records (or MP3s), sometimes alone, sometimes as Brød & Smør running events like silent art discos and curating late night at the museum events (LINK). I´m usually dancing in equal measure. Oh and I have a radio show. It´s called FEELINGS.

Plus i have heaps, nay, thousands of yoga playlists. I like to call them “playlists”. And i also make mixes for you to enjoy on the regular (you can access them via my email list). If you want to know what i´m listening to these days, you can receive my Vibes Immediately rolling playlist of mood music here. I update it weekly.

dionne.space

Retreats

I´ve been running retreats since 2012 both in the UK and Norway which range from “get away from it all” holidays to day retreats in composers homes and art museums.

The retreats are really a combination of all of the elements of what i do, explorations in coaching, writing, music, yoga, meditation and wellness, oh and a big emphasis on really really great food with an amazing community.

They tend to evoke big positive changes as you are able to step out and really focus on doing you how you want to. It´s important to me that wellness is accessible, and although yoga classes are great alone, sometimes it´s nice to get an opportunity to go deeper into practice with more time immersed in movement and stillness studies.

You can pop over to my retreat page and find out details about the next event HERE.

My weekly digest

I send out letters filled with personal insights and inspo plus bonus treats like playlists, offerings and news nuggets in one distilled digest sent straight to your inbox. If you´re not already on the list you can sign up below.

Here´s 12 things i´m interested in:

Here´s 12 thing i´m interested in:

Here´s 12 things i´m interested in:

1. Spacemaking

Less tension, more ease, more room, more goodness, more potential. I´m into supporting people to show up in the world in ways that feels spacious, whilst taking care of themselves on that journey. Read more about that in my FAQ. LINK

2. Self care

Always, all ways. I´m interested in self care for real life, for real people. The take-home real-life tools and techniques that are adaptable, sustainable and accessible. And most of all resonate with who you are and what you value. Sometimes, we weren´t taught tools or encouraged to hold space for ourselves. I help humans feel empowered define their own versions of self care, to create their own rituals, and their relationship to them, hopefully finding ways to feel better everyday, whatever you have going on. Take care of you.

3. Growth

Moving forwards with integrity, staying curious not complacent.

I´m committed to growing, learning, and being open to new ideas for my own personal development as well as supporting others to go deep in exploring their own potential, intentions, dreams, hopes and plans. Essentially self development whilst making your own rules (see below).

4. Making your own rules

Living according to your own terms, in your own way, reflected by your own authentic expression in ways that are balanced - that don´t leave you crashing or burning out. I believe you can design a life that is abundant, nourishing, exciting and real. It´s not about one size fitting all, rather a curious adventure. Practice. Enquiry. Exploration. Self care. Empowerment. Listening to what you need. Being open to possibilities. In ways that are real and true for you. And sustainable. Cause who wants a temporary solution when you can have a lifestyle transformation?

5. Doing You!

I´m passionate about people feeling empowered to claim their own lives. I´m a cheerleader, encourager and celebrator (is that a thing? Let´s make that a thing!) and want other great humans to be out there, living their best lives! We all have something unique to offer that´s valuable, so I´m praise of the individual whilst celebrating community and diversity. Do you, boo!

6. Keeping it real

Authenticity is my jam. Everything i make, share and do is rooted in it being meaningful, truthful and intentional.

7. Creativity

We are all creative beings and i value the importance of expressing your creativity fully. I encourage and remind humans to explore creativity for themselves without the pressures of labels or of things needing to be perfect (you´re already perfect!)  I´m also passionate about creating offerings that i want to see in the world that didn´t exist before. Whether it´s space for community to form and grow. Or doing things differently.

8. Connection

Sharing content that resonates with good people - real people - that inspires them to find more space, connection and community. in real life and online. And being intentional with that in everything i do, share and create. It has to have meaning.

9. Vibes

- Good ones :) Cultivating and seeking out positive vibes yet holding space for and respecting resistance.

10 Feelings

Although i´m into good vibes and humans feeling empowered to feel better, i´m also an encourager of respectfully holding space to feel the feels, honouring and using them to trust your guts and listen to yourself a little better. Do what you feel, babes. My radio show is dedicated to that. LINK

11. Healing

Creating spaces where healing and self care can happen using tools like creative coaching, movement, meditation, music and words. I´m interested in getting real about ways to heal and thrive. In taking care of our physical, mental and emotional health.

12. Finding Flow

I help humans find their flow in ways that are real, clear, focussed and accessible, avoiding fluff and superficial jargon and creating more ease (and less tension). I´m interested in a way of being that feels “in-flow” - that is, it feels easeful - despite obstacles or challenges - so i support humans to flow their own way, to make a life that is meaningful and exciting and literally, living the dream. We get to write the story we always wanted to tell. And to own it.

Feel empowered...

to create the changes you want.
To be inspired to make that thing you´ve been hankering for.
To feel motivated to (cue MJ from 1989´s Man In The Mirror) “make that change”.
Real life tips, not a strict, snooty approach. Room to ponder.
Ask questions.
Explore and have an adventure.
Inspiration.
Encouragement.
Motivation.
Down to earth realness.
Humour.
A different approach to creating a life that feels good.

My journey to self care + empowering others to make their own rules

For the last 25 years i´ve worked in a fair few different spaces and places. From the UK to the Caribbean, the south of France, Monaco, Barcelona, Norway and beyond. Doing things mostly in media, radio, music, film, wellness and arts, but with some sprinkles of randomness like:

  • working on a superyacht cleaning up bodily fluids (don´t ask...or do!) and hosting ridiculous parties,
  • "acting*" (*read: eating pizza) on the rooftops of Dublin for a music video,
  • presenting for a grime channel in East London wearing a sequin bolero,
  • serving terrible cortados and Irish whiskeys in Bergen,
  • talking to gallons of cheerful engineers on the London Underground from Canary Wharf,
  • serving saltfish and rice and peas and toothpaste (not together) from a store in the eastern Caribbean,
  • working in a call centre and writing a book (together)
  • scrubbing lots of toilets (in most places)

...it´s certainly not been boring and i´m grateful for it all! To some, this synopsis of my CV might seem absurd, but to me, it interconnects. Because...

1) i learned a lot about humans.
From the richest to the least affluent. How business run and about work culture. How people take care of themselves or not. I´ve seen humans from all kinds of perspectives. And it made me constantly reflect how i wanted to show up in the world...

2) they pushed me out of my comfort zone.
often, i was told people like me couldn´t do most of these things, so i shouldn´t hope for much, therefore i felt it was imperative to go out there and do it anyway.

3) they gifted me with skills and broadened my perspective.
Ok, some of the skills might seem a little random but they have come in surprisingly useful! I questioned many of the "rules" around how you had to perform and ways you had to do things just because "that´s how it´s always been done". It made me curious. Reflective. Aware of my privilege. Purposeful. Because i´ve always felt you can "do you", being kind and encouraging to others no matter were you are or what you are doing. PS that also taught me about boundaries, cause you don´t have to be a pushover to care for others.

Work-work-work-work-burnout

dionne.space

As most working class children of immigrants know, you’re taught from birth that you have to work twice as hard to get anywhere in life. I was warned that being mixed race and (also) self-identifying as Black was provocative. Hair, skin and body, political. Taboo. The shame. As a teen, my teacher echoed the caution, warning me i´d need to work three times as hard simply because I was a woman and a person of colour. I guess this mantra has deep roots.

It was clear that there were spaces i wasn’t supposed to inhabit. The glass ceilings felt claustrophobic. Rules around what rooms i was allowed in have followed me into adulthood and fuelled my fire.

Underlying everything was a need to somehow prove i was enough. Capable. Worthy...or something. But it compromised my physical and mental health.

In my 20s and 30s i experienced numerous burnouts accompanied by old friends anxiety and depression. I moved houses over 20 times in six years. Changing countries, cities and small towns in the process. Of the list of countless jobs and careers, i juggled many simultaneously to, you know, “survive”. I learned to graft from a young age, my first job at 11 and finally starting my own business aged 30. I wanted to prove that we can choose to exist wherever we want to. Create what stirs or soothes us.

It has driven me. To deepen my own explorations around self care, Otherness, trauma and mental health using art, wellness and creativity as my mediums. To strive to create spaces that are inclusive and accessible. To be an encourager. To support people to feel empowered to make their own rules, and to live their own life in ways that feel good.

Sometimes it’s difficult to explain to people what i do, as i run numerous projects relating to yoga, creativity, coaching, self care courses, writing and music both here, in Norway and beyond (thanks internet!). But the mission that connects it all is to facilitate ways for people to feel empowered to design a life that feels good, whilst sustainably implementing their own real-life self care strategies into their everyday.

If you want to look at some of my projects btw, click HERE.

I´ve created events that use spaces that weren´t often used for yoga/music projects, i´ve taken over art museums and culture houses and fro-yo warehouses and chicken shops and schools and offices and basically anywhere that let me in to hold events combining wellness, personal development, yoga, music, art and self care, trying to challenge stereotypes and expectations around these subjects. For me at least, it makes sense that they overlap, and sometimes there is this weird snootiness that tries to keep them exclusive and inaccessible. I want to continue to break down those walls and create spaces and environments and experiences for people to feel empowered and to feel better.

It can be political to be a woman of colour leading and sharing these kinds of offerings, especially because i use non-standard physical and online spaces. But to me it makes sense, deconstructing and redefining boundaries and spaces too. It’s political to be a polymath. To not fit into a box. But hopefully that’s changing. And i want to support others to redefine and design their own lives that feel good - balanced, real and meaningful.

We all deserve access to tools to create and design our lives and to define self care looks like for us.

Everybody deserves access to transformational tools that that are authentic, accessible and sustainable.

And for those who  can offer tools and techniques for humans to adapt and “take home” so they could feel empowered to create their own versions of self care in creative and sustainable ways.

And it´s also my mission that on that journey, i can offer tools and techniques for humans to adapt and “take home” so they could feel empowered to create their own versions of self care in creative and sustainable ways.

We all deserve access to tools to create what self care looks like for us.

No matter how difficult/impossible things might feel, I believe you have the power to change your life!_

live your life on your own terms___

Ready?

I believe you can design a life that is abundant. nourishing. exciting. and make your own rules (then eat them if you like).

I´m not really "into" the idea of rules tbh...i´m interested in a way of being that feels in flow - that is, it feels easeful - even in the sticky and difficult moments - cause there will always be challenges in our life journeys - but we don´t have to be defined by them or playing out the same destructive patterns. Instead we get to write the story we always wanted to tell.

Create the environment.

DOES THIS RESONATE?

Are you tired of the labels and expectations of sociatal "norms"

do you want a "different" approach to living the life of your dreams? and making those dreams real?

exhausted at having to clip your wings, dim your shine or conform to a way of being that doesn´t feel authentic?

feeling overwhelmed at all the self development stuff that´s out there telling you contradictory rules for living?

deep down trust that there´s something more?

there is more.

There are times in our lives where we might feel powerless. We might feel stuck, or like we have lost our way.

That might be for all kinds of reasons.

Life getting in the way.

A job that becomes different to what we expected.

A dramatic life change.

A relationship that was imbalanced.

Pressures, stresses and demands taking their toll

Procrastination preventing us from moving forwards.

We might simply forget the power we have.

So i´m passionate about people feeling connected to themselves so they can feel empowered to design their own lives.

MY MISSION

My mission: to make yoga, movement, music, the arts and self care for real life, accessible and not pretend. That doesn´t even work as a sentence. But i think you might know what i mean. Anyway. I´m a mixed "race" - whatever the hell that is - human, so inclusivity is really important to me. That endless straddling between places spaces and peoples. If that makes sense.

I´m committed to producing meaningful offerings that provide a unique approach to wellness and, well, the world!
I love to be useful.

I know that

At 19, i had survived a dysfunctional, violent and abusive childhood, my best friend had died a couple of years before, and i was in the midst of a very boring eating disorder. I felt rootless, lost and carried the legacy in a giant rucksack of anxiety and underlying depression. Back then, they didn´t really have much terminology for it. But nowadays, thankfully, there´s more awareness about how our lovely brains work, and how we can manage symptoms, hopefully getting to the bottom of it and finding ways to live fully, despite it. Even in the darkest moments i knew there had to be more. Even if i hadn´t been taught how to find it, i was determined to discover it myself. Cue a lot of therapy, councelling, and my own seeking. I went to my first yoga class that year, mainly to try to find ways of managing anxiety and tackle insomnia. Since then it´s been a constant thread.

I´d moved around a lot as a kid, schools, villages, towns, cities and countries, which i think helped me always explore and unpick human behaviour, cultures and how we find our place in the world. I´m also mixed race and a geek, which only fuelled my core desire to seek and explore.

I dreamed of a life where i had the freedom to create the things that didn´t exist but that i wanted to see in the world and to do it whilst being real and authentic and kind because i truly believe you can make stuff and be in business without having to be mean. I hustled. By hustle i mean grafted. I got hurt. And ridiculed along the way, being told i was too "nice" or smiled too much...so grafted some more. Then i burned out. This pattern continued a few more times because basically i wasn´t taught there was any other way. But something kept telling me that there had to be more. And eventually, i realised there has to be more.  A more balanced way to find your focus. To implement self care on the everyday. To create and live your creativity, no matter what societal label you wear (willingly or reluctantly!). Whilst being true to yourself. I wanted authentic connection to myself and to others.

The offerings i share come from those learning moments.

I´ve been running my own business since 2010 when i moved to Norway to teach yoga, dj and write. Before that i´d been working in radio and music and arts but was too scared to step out and do something for myself.

I´m also really passionate about self care thanks to my own experiences with anxiety and depression and burnout, and really wanted to offer tools and techniques for people to adapt and “take home” so they could feel empowered to create their own versions of self care in creative and sustainable ways.

self development needn´t be laden with pressures to be like anyone else. or to subscribe to another standard of doing things. i mean changing your life and living it according to your own terms. values. and creating goals that are meaningful to who you are.

i´m really not about that life that tells us to adhere to societal expectation. or to conform to a way of being that feels false and superficial. i believe there is a different way. do you?

MY JOURNEY

SEEKING AND MOVING

I was always interested in seeking. i was searching for something deeper.  In looking for something more.

I was never interested in short cuts or the easy route.

And i don´t mean that in a gratuitous way, for years i wished i could be that person that sought out a quick fix.

A lot of my projects centre around creating offerings that didn´t exist before. Whether it´s space for community to form and grow. Or doing things differently. I´ve not got a great track record for taking the easy route. In fact, struggle was a way of life for a really long time.

The littlest hobo

I was always a seeker. Constantly on a quest looking for something. It manifested in me moving around a lot. My nickname used to be The Littlest Hobo (hiya to folks i´ve known since hi5, myspace and blogger!) i grew up going to a lot of different schools as my parents were pretty nomadic, moved to different countries, cities etc and feel that “home” is a number of different countries . at present , im based between the uk and norway.

I was always restless. Looking for something. Taking solace with temporary fixes, most of them doing me no good. Many years working on trauma, from childhood, from adolescence, from adulthood. I threw myself into work and sometimes play. Mostly media and arts related careers, mostly relating to music although i kept trying to fight it, i´d always end up back there. From record labels to management to radio i grafted

But i was always seeking. I guess that came from growing up and moving around a lot. My parents were pretty nomadic and transient. I went to many different schools. Moved countries and am grateful for the experience of some of my schools being in the Caribbean. And the seeking didn´t stop when i left school. I bought a house at 18. Worked a while then took myself to university. Then took myself to live in Barcelona. Then to London, then spent some time in a van in Greece. Then Brighton. Then the south of France. Monaco. The UK. Norway. Then the UK again where i split my time between there and Norway.

Identity is something i´m always exploring. Perhaps that´s because i´m used to being from different places. And being Other, which i think means you can´t help but see many different perspectives.

HEALING is a big part of why i do what i do.

  • Creating spaces where healing and self care can happen using tools like movement, meditation, music and words.
  • In terms of yoga , i specialising in trauma and stress sensitively , and also anxiety and depression. Neuroscience . feel good. No expectation.

Such a significant amount of my life has been about dealing with/managing anxiety and depression. Finding ways to learn how to take care of myself and my mental health, with compassion and openness. I´m passionate about dismantling the stigma that orbits those words to be honest. And creating environments whether online or in real life that champions humans for being brave and showing up.

I´m interested in self care for real life , for real people. The stuff that´s sustainable and accessible. And most of all resonates with who you are as a human. Not a one size fits all copy-paste affair. Whether it´s in my coaching offerings, yoga classes, workshops, and retreats it´s the same:  it´s your life, your experience, your practice and each session has space for you to have/make your own adventure and honour that. You´re not expected to look the same or think the same as everyone else. I´m praise of the individual whilst celebrating community and diversity.

DO YOU

It´s not a one size fits all, rather a curious adventure. Practice. Enquiry. Exploration. Self care. Empowerment.  Listening to what you need. Being opening to possibilities. In ways that´s real and true for you. And sustainable. Cause who wants a temporary solution when you can have a lifestyle transformation?

It´s not about looking a particular way. Or feeling like you need to fit. I help you to create your own space.

I want to help people to feel better. About themselves and their lives. So they can empower themselves to feel nice.
